Job Description
DLVR, Inc., a well-funded, established startup, is looking for a Senior Operations Engineer in the UK who can get up to speed quickly and help us accelerate our growth in Europe.
You might be the right person for this job if you can combine empathy and communication skills with a passion for solving technical problems. You will be working independently but also collaboratively on a small team, where you will be responsible for providing direct customer support via chat, email, or phone, as well as supporting DLVR’s purpose built distributed infrastructure.
Working directly with customers, in collaboration with the Software Engineering and Technical Account Management teams, you’ll help customers solve problems, set up new services, and figure out how to do things no one has ever done before. You will therefore need to demonstrate and deploy a creative and collaborative approach to problem-solving, as well as the technical and troubleshooting aptitude to solve problems unassisted when necessary.
One key element of supporting a growing customer base is a conscientious attention to detail and a focus on proactively identifying issues that could affect user experience or that require you to take action to fix. You should be familiar with, or well-equipped to learn, how to use our open source and commercial monitoring tools to ensure that you and your team are always notified immediately of any such issue. As you work with new customers and prospects to understand their unique requirements, you’ll find yourself working with the development team to add and test new features. You’ll be responsible to ensure that they are monitored properly, and that any issues detected by monitoring are quickly triaged, mitigated, and then permanently fixed, to ensure that you and your team only get paged when necessary. That means you should be comfortable working in Linux and effectively using Python, shell scripts, or other appropriate tools to “automate yourself out of a job” as often as possible as DLVR scales up.
As part of the operations team, you may also be responsible for continuous deployment of configuration changes and software updates. If you already have experience with continuous integration and deployment of code and configuration to a production environment, that is a plus, but the real requirement is a willingness and proven ability to learn all the ins and outs of the system you’re supporting.
Other areas of “internet infrastructure” that you might have prior experience in would include networking, security, IPv6, and/or DNS. But more important than the experience on your résumé is that you can show you have a strong desire to learn and grow. You may not know how to do everything, but you should know how to find out how to do anything.
DLVR has been in business for 24 months and is just coming out of stealth, with an executive team that has successfully launched and exited more than a half dozen startups. We are focused on bringing together the best possible team to do the best work of their careers, and hope you are excited to join us. If you are, please provide your résumé and cover letter below. (No recruiters, please.)
